Chant and dance! – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

Chant and dance! – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

Over Memorial Day weekend, over 2,000 devotees gathered at the Art of Living Retreat Center in Boone, North Carolina,  for the Sadhu Sanga Kirtan retreat that His Holiness Indradyumna Swami organized with the help of his disciples.

At the retreat, there was a disciples’ meeting on Saturday, which has become an annual event for the disciples of Indradyumna Swami. At that time, the vyasa puja ceremony for Indradyumna Swami was carried out and the Swami also read his most recent diary entry, entitled: “He did his time” and available on his facebook page and on his Traveling Monk website. The diary entry discusses a little bit about Indradyumna Swami’s time in the Marines. He is pictured in his uniform below.

The Sadhu Sanga kirtan event was attended by many disciples of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and kirtan leaders included Govinda SwamiBadahari dasMadhava NaidooNiranjana SwamiVaisesika dasJahnavi HarrisonAgnideva das (a surprise!), Indradyumna Swami, Radhanath Swami, and others.

Soon, the retreat organizers will send out recordings of the blissful kirtans that had everyone up and dancing. A highlight of the event took place when Vaisesika das invited all of the disciples of Srila Prabhupada in attendance to go to the stage to chant and dance up there with him.

Ananta Vrindavan das, one of Indradyumna Swami’s disciples captured the event in video and photography, as usual, and his album can be found here on his facebook page.

In his diary post, Indradyumna Swami quoted Srila Prabhupada at the end.

“A Vaisnava is always a well-wisher to everyone. The Six Gosvamis, for example, are described in this way: dhiradhira janapriyau. They were popular with both the gentle and the ruffians. A Vaisnava must be equal to everyone, regardless of one’s position. Atmavat: a Vaisava should be like Paramatma. Isvara sarva-bhutanam hrd-dese ‘rjuna tisthati. Paramatma does not hate anyone … As the moon never refuses to distribute its pleasing rays even to the home of a candala, a Vaisnava never refuses to act for everyone’s welfare.”

Sweeter than the Sweetest Mango – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

Sweeter than the Sweetest Mango – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

In a video describing his recent travels in Vladivostok, Russia, His Holiness Indradyumna Swami discussed how inspired he was to find the Russian Devotees so enthusiastic. Indeed, they go on harinam 365 days a year! In several Facebook posts, Indradyumna Swami recounts the sweetness of his ongoing Russian tour.

In the lecture, Indradyumna Swami describes the sweetness of preaching in Russia. In the video, he says:

“Prabhupada was speaking with one devotee about his upcoming trip to Moscow, Russia. This was in the early 70’s. And that Devotee was saying, ‘Prabhupada, don’t go to Russia now. It’s snowing in Moscow. You should stay here and rest in Hawaii and enjoy the mangoes.’

Then Prabhupada famously said, ‘Preaching in the snows of Moscow is sweeter than the sweetest mango.’ So that’s why we come here. And this is our pleasure, to continue the mission of our Spiritual Master, Srila Prabhupada.”

The Glory of the Siberian Devotees – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

The Glory of the Siberian Devotees – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

In a video describing his recent travels in Siberia, His Holiness Indradyumna Swami spoke about what inspires himself, personally, to keep preaching in remote parts of the world.

Indradyumna Swami said, “I keep a letter that I printed out that Srila Prabhupada wrote to my dear Godbrother Prabhavishnu das in the early 1970’s. At that time, Prabhavishnu was preaching in England and he wrote a letter to Prabhupada in the winter telling Prabhupada the results of the preaching and sharing with him some of the austerities involved at the time and Prabhupada wrote back this wonderful letter, which for me is like a mission statement. And when I come to places like this or other places around the world where it’s a little difficult, I take that letter out sometimes and I read how pleased Srila Prabhupada is when we do these austerities for him. I’d like to read it to you. I have it here it front of me. Prabhupada writes to Prabhavishnu das:

“I can understand that it is not an easy matter to travel extensively over long periods of time without proper food, rest, and sometimes it must be very cold there also, but still, because you are getting so much enjoyment, spiritual enjoyment, from it, it seems like play to you. That is the advanced stage of spiritual life, never attained by even the greatest yogis and so-called jnanis. Let any man see our devotees working so hard for Krishna, and let them say they are not better than any millions of so-called yogis and transcendentalists, that is my challenge. Because you are rightly understanding through your personal realization this philosophy of Krishna consciousness, therefore in such a short time, you have surpassed all the stages of the yoga process to come to the highest point of surrendering to Krishna. That I very much appreciate. Thank you very much for helping me in this way.” (January, 1973).

All glories to the Siberian Devotees! All glories to our beloved Srila Prabhupada!

In the video, Indradyumna Swami describes how the devotees in Siberia go out on harinam three times a week in the Winter and every day in the Summer.

The Holy Name of Lord Govinda – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

The Holy Name of Lord Govinda – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

Two months ago, His Holiness Indradyumna Swami gave a wonderful three-part seminar on the glories of Srila Haridas Thakur while in Sri Mayapur Dhama. In the second part of the lecture, Indradyumna Swami notes that in the Skanda Purana, a Mahatma says:

“I see that Kali Yuga is a like a black poisonous snake with a gaping mouth and fangs, but please don’t be disturbed, dear Devotees, and listen with faith. Once the Holy Name of Lord Govinda is being chanted, it is like igniting a forest fire which will burn to ashes the poisonous snakes within the forest.”

Indradyumna Swami Mayapur 3

In the lecture, Indradyumna Swami several times has the Devotees chant the Maha Mantra. He additionally quotes Srila Sanatana Goswami who says in the Hari-bhakti-vilāsa (2.12) that anyone can be elevated to the position of a brāhmaṇa by the process of initiation:

yathā kāñcanatāṁ yāti kāṁsyaṁ rasa-vidhānataḥ / tathā dīkṣā-vidhānena dvijatvaṁ jāyate nṛṇām

“As bell metal is turned to gold when mixed with mercury in an alchemical process, so one who is properly trained and initiated by a bona fide spiritual master immediately becomes a brāhmaṇa.”

Srila Prabhupada also frequently quoted the above verse.

“Why shall I ask You for anything?” – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

“Why shall I ask You for anything?” – Indradyumna Swami Nectar

Just days ago, His Holiness Indradyumna Swami captured the spirit of the 3rd annual kirtan mela at New Govardhan, Australia by quoting from a letter of Srila Prabhupada’s. Headed up by BB Govinda Swami, Bada Haridas, Sri Prahlada dasa, Janardan prabhu and others, the kirtan mela is enthusing the Devotees to unlimited degrees!

“Prahlada Maharaja said, ‘My Lord, I have no problem, so why shall I ask You for anything? I have no problem. Everyone has got problem in this material world. They’re trying to overcome the problem. But I have no problem. I have no problem because my mind is always absorbed in glorifying Your Lordship. Therefore, I have no problem.’ So kirtan. You’ll feel immediately refreshed. However burden you may feel, as soon as you perform krsna-kirtana, you’ll find immediately refreshed. So one who has got taste for this kirtana, he has no problem.”

[ Lecture, January 19, 1974, Honolulu, Hawaii ]

As of this past week, Indradyumna Swami’s travels in the West have officially begun. Before he left the Holy Dhama, Indradyumna Swami visited Surya KundaVarsana, and Radha Kunda, among other holy places.

Now Indradyumna Swami’s preaching pastimes in the western world have begun, beginning with this kirtan mela.

Causeless Mercy of Sri Guru – Indradyumna Swami Quotes Srila Prabhupada

Causeless Mercy of Sri Guru – Indradyumna Swami Quotes Srila Prabhupada

His Holiness Indradyumna Swami returned to Mayapur this past week and spoke at the wedding of Syama-vanamali dasa and Keli Kandali dasi. At the wedding, Indradyumna Swami wrote about the relationship between Guru and Disciple. The letter that he wrote to the two newlyweds is recorded in one of his Facebook posts. In it, he writes, “Certainly, there are formalities in the relationship between guru and disciple. One is servant and the other is master. The prevailing mood is one of awe and reverence. But the constant and selfless service of the disciple endears him or her to the spiritual master and in time a natural affection and spiritual love develops between the two.”

Indradyumna_Swami_attends_wedding

He quoted from a letter Srila Prabhupada wrote on September 28, 1966:

“At his first sight of me my spiritual master also saw me with such love. It was in my very first darsana of him that I learned how to love. It is his boundless mercy that he has engaged an unworthy person like me in fulfilling some of his desires. It is his causeless mercy to engage me in preaching the message of Sri Rupa and Sri Ragunatha.”

Reflections on Preaching – Srila Prabhupada quoted by Indradyumna Swami

Reflections on Preaching – Srila Prabhupada quoted by Indradyumna Swami

On February 18th, His Holiness Indradyumna Swami left Mayapura for a two-week preaching tour in South Africa, as he related in a Facebook post. Before leaving Mayapur, on the way through Kolkata, Indradyumna Swami mentioned that he stopped by the Bhaktivedanta Research Center. The BRC is a project that was started by Indradyumna Swami’s Godbrother, Hari Sauri Prabhu, for the purpose of gathering, preserving and disseminating the works of our previous Acaryas on Gaudiya Vaisnavism and other Vedic literatures.

Indradyumna_Swami_Bhaktivedanta_Research_Center

At present the library has over 20,000 books, including a hand-written autobiography by Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur. Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur, Indradyumna Swami has said, was always a significant inspiration for him on his sankirtan and preaching tours. In a recent lecture delivered in Mayapur, Indradyumna Swami mentioned that his Sankirtan leader in France once told him, “Whenever you go to a town for the first time, Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur accompanies you.” Indradyumna Swami went on to say that Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur is the original pioneer of the Bhakti movement. He rediscovered the Krishna Consciousness movement in Mayapur and had the vision of the whole world becoming Krishna Conscious.

Along the same lines, Indradyumna Swami reflected on Srila Prabhupada’s injunction to preach the message of Krishna Consciousness in his latest facebook post. He quoted from one of Srila Prabhupada’s letters (copied below):

My Dear Mahamaya dasi, Please accept my blessings. I have received your letter undated, and have noted the contents carefully. I am very pleased by your attitude to surrender yourself completely by engaging cent per cent in Krishna’s service. Somehow or other always to be thinking about Krishna, that is the goal of Krishna Consciousness process. So now you please help me to spread this information all over this earth planet, especially by helping to distribute my books and literatures, as many as possible. Then you will get the credit, and know it for certain that very soon you will go back to Home, back to Godhead.

I hope this finds you in good health and cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami

“You are just like the moonlight” – Nectar of Devotion quoted by Indradyumna Swami

“You are just like the moonlight” – Nectar of Devotion quoted by Indradyumna Swami

“One aged devotee of Krsna addressed Him in this way: ‘My dear Krsna, O killer of the demon Agha, my body is now invalid due to old age. I cannot speak very fluently, my voice is faltering, my mind is not strong, and I am often attacked by forgetfulness. But, my dear Lord, You are just like the moonlight, and my only real regret is that for want of any taste for Your pleasant shining I did not advance myself in Krsna consciousness.’ This statement is an instance of lamentation due to one’s being unable to achieve his desired goal.”

No one can attain spiritual perfection by physical strength. One must have the spiritual strength which is infused by Balarama. “Chant the Hare Krsna mantra at every moment” – Srila Prabhupada quoted by Indradyumna Swami

“Chant the Hare Krsna mantra at every moment”

– Srila Prabhupada quoted by Indradyumna Swami

“The Krsna consciousness movement is based on this principle: chant the Hare Krsna mantra at every moment, as much as possible, both inside and outside of the temples, and, as far as possible, distribute prasāda. …. Simply by liberal distribution of prasāda and saṅkīrtana, the whole world can become peaceful and prosperous.”
